Annals of Academia

The one thing I wish someone had told me in graduate school is that I will never be able to choose my own research topic ever again—at least not as freely. Given the opportunity to academically elevate and analyze aspects of our culture, here were some highlights:

  • A tracing of early modern interiors, twentieth-century surrealism, and 1990s computer animation in Disney’s Beauty and the Beast
  • The visual and material culture of the Real Housewives reality television franchise
  • Shifting visions of American potential through theatrical depictions of the Western frontier in Oklahoma! and August: Osage County
  • A personally seminal study of theatrical interior design looking at Yasmina Reza’s farcical satire God of Carnage
